Healthcare Website and Patient Portal Development

Appointment booking, patient portals and clinic systems built around access control and privacy from the first design decision, not retrofitted afterwards.

The short answer

Healthcare — what actually matters

Healthcare software carries a different risk profile from most web work. The data is sensitive, the users span every level of digital confidence, and a confusing interface is not merely an annoyance — it can mean a missed appointment or a mistaken entry in a record.

So the priorities shift: clear, low-friction patient journeys; strict role-based access; audit trails on anything clinical; and interfaces that work for an elderly patient on an old phone as reliably as for a consultant at a desk.

Where it goes wrong

Common challenges

If several of these describe your situation, the problem is usually structural rather than cosmetic.

  • Appointment booking done entirely by phone, and lost when the line is busy
  • High no-show rates with no reminder system
  • Patient records spread across systems that cannot see each other
  • No controlled way for patients to access their own reports
  • Staff working around software that does not fit clinical workflow
  • Accessibility failures that exclude the patients who need access most
  • Uncertainty about who accessed which record, and when

What it needs

Digital requirements

Appointment systems

Real availability by doctor, department and location, with rescheduling and cancellation patients can do themselves.

Patient portals

Controlled access to appointments, reports and history, with authentication proportionate to the sensitivity.

Role-based access

Clinical, administrative and support staff seeing only what their role requires.

Audit trails

A durable record of who accessed or changed what, because in healthcare that question eventually gets asked.

Notifications

Appointment reminders and results-ready alerts by SMS, email or app, with patient consent.

Accessibility

Genuinely usable at large text sizes, with screen readers, and on older devices.

Capability

What we build for healthcare

  • Doctor and department directories with availability
  • Online appointment booking, rescheduling and cancellation
  • Automated appointment reminders
  • Patient portal with reports and visit history
  • Secure document upload and sharing
  • Teleconsultation scheduling and video integration
  • Multi-location and multi-specialty support
  • Staff and admin dashboards with role-based permissions
  • Audit logging on record access and changes

Worth being clear about

Compliance and data

Haqto holds no healthcare compliance certification, and we will not imply otherwise. What we do is build to the requirements your compliance advisers set: encryption in transit and at rest, least-privilege access, audit logging, data retention rules, consent capture, and data residency where it is specified. Bring us the obligations that apply to you and we will build to them; do not take a vendor's word for what those obligations are.

Examples

Typical projects

Hospital website and booking

Departments, consultants, availability and appointment booking across multiple locations.

Clinic management

Scheduling, patient records, billing and reporting for a single practice or a small chain.

Diagnostics and labs

Test catalogues, home collection booking and controlled report delivery.

Teleconsultation

Booking, payment, video consultation and digital prescription handling.

Questions

Healthcare — frequently asked

Is Haqto HIPAA or NABH compliant?

No, and any vendor claiming certification should be asked to produce it. Compliance is a property of your organisation and its processes, not of a development agency. We build systems to the technical requirements your compliance advisers specify — encryption, access control, audit logging, retention and residency.

Where is patient data stored?

Wherever you require. If data residency in India is a requirement, we deploy to Indian regions. This is decided during architecture, before anything is built, because moving it later is expensive.

Can it integrate with our existing HIS or EMR?

It depends entirely on what the system exposes. Modern platforms with APIs are straightforward; older on-premise systems may need database-level integration or scheduled exchange. We establish what is actually possible during discovery.

How do you handle accessibility?

As a requirement, not an enhancement. Healthcare audiences include elderly patients, people with visual impairments and people using older devices. Contrast, text scaling, keyboard navigation and screen-reader support are designed in.

Can patients book without creating an account?

Yes, and for a first appointment that usually converts better. Accounts make sense for returning patients who need access to history and reports.
